Our comment from StudyLanguages about Patrick's English Academy:
A unique and exclusive learning environment in Cork
Patrick’s English Academy stands out as a unique and exclusive school located in the heart of Cork city. Unlike large, impersonal institutions, this academy prioritizes a close-knit community where students learn in small, manageable groups. This intimate setting ensures that every student receives the attention they deserve, fostering an environment where learning is both effective and enjoyable.
Small groups and personalized attention
The academy’s core strength lies in its commitment to small class sizes, typically capped at six students. This structure allows teachers to tailor their approach to individual needs, ensuring that each student is actively engaged. Students frequently highlight the professional, patient, and charismatic nature of the teaching staff, who are dedicated to clarifying doubts and providing detailed feedback. This personalized care extends beyond the classroom, with the director, Patrick, and his team offering unwavering support with administrative procedures, visa applications, and even local housing advice, making students feel truly welcomed and supported.
Dynamic methodology and practical learning
Students consistently praise the academy’s innovative and dynamic teaching methodology. Rather than relying solely on traditional rote learning, the classes focus heavily on verbal interaction, speaking practice, and real-world application. The curriculum is designed to be practical, helping students overcome common mistakes and build confidence in their daily communication. The use of custom-made materials and a proprietary textbook, specifically designed to address the needs of Spanish speakers, further enhances the learning experience by targeting specific linguistic challenges.
Comprehensive exam preparation and flexible options
Whether aiming for general fluency or preparing for prestigious Cambridge exams like the FCE or CAE, the academy offers robust support. The method is highly effective for exam preparation, with a strong emphasis on oral skills, vocabulary retention, and structured writing practice. Additionally, the school offers flexible learning options, including both face-to-face classes in Cork and high-quality online courses. This versatility allows students from around the world to benefit from Patrick’s proven teaching methods and the academy’s engaging atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been studying here for 8months, class contents are absolutely practical. Teachers are great. I learned a lot not only English on its own but also what it is to get to learn a new language.
Fantastic experience: I absolutely loved my experience at Patrick’s English! The teachers are professional, patient, and really know how to make learning English enjoyable. Their teaching approach is engaging and tailored to each student, which made a huge difference for me. The atmosphere at the academy is welcoming and friendly, and I always felt supported. I can’t recommend this school highly enough — a fantastic place to improve your English!
Hi Sabrina,
Many thanks for your kind words. We look forward to seeing you again when you return soon.
Fantastic experience: I’d like to thank the school for all the attention and dedication — not only to me, but to everyone I had the chance to observe. At the reception, Lucas is always very attentive and helpful; in management, Bob is an extremely pleasant and cooperative person. But for me, what stood out the most was the dedication, professionalism, and especially the charisma of my teacher, Nick. He knew exactly how to help me and clarify all my doubts. I had a great experience and incredible classes. Thank you very much.
Positive experience: I studied at this English school and had a mixed experience. While there are definitely some positive aspects, there were also some issues that impacted the overall quality of the experience. Pros: ✅ The teachers are very good — friendly, professional, and genuinely interested in helping students improve. ✅ The school has a warm and familiar atmosphere. Because it's not overcrowded, you can get more attention during classes. ✅ You don’t need to buy textbooks; they are available in the classrooms for use, which is a helpful bonus. Cons: ❌ The school is located in an old building in Cork city centre. The heating system is poor, which is uncomfortable during winter. Also, the basement classroom sometimes floods, which disrupts classes. ❌ The receptionist position changes frequently, and as a result, the person often doesn’t have the training or information needed to help students effectively. ❌ The school director is quite inflexible in handling student concerns, and this can make it difficult to resolve certain issues*. *For Brazilian students: Se quiserem mais informações sobre essa parte, me contate que posso dar mais informações sobre algumas experiências não muito agradáveis que aconteceram comigo e outros brasileiros. Thank you for your balanced feedback Rodrigo.
I am glad to see you appreciate the quality of the classes and the warm atmosphere in the school. This is something we work very hard on to achieve.
Regarding the things that you were not so happy with;
We are very happy with our school facilities and believe that our classrooms are modern and comfortable for students. We do recall that there was a day where there was an issue with the heating.. this was simply the case that the heating hadn't been turned on in advance of the class. It was not a problem with the heating system, which works perfectly.
I am sorry to hear that you felt management was not flexible with you. We are aware that you had an issue towards the end of your course. However, this was out of our control. We do our best to help students, but we must follow protocol.
Thank you for your feedback
Fantastic experience: Comecei o curso há 2 dias, estou gostando bastante, aulas muito dinâmicas, professor animado, escola com boa localização, equipe bem atenciosa.
